Week of September 4th

Pictured above is the ISS flying over the Earth at night last April.  The astronauts captured on film a rare phenomena - a red sprite.  Look closely at the white light blast which is regular lightning - right next to it is a red flash.  This red flash is a unique type of lightning that not too much is known about.

Cape Cod, MA beach closures due to Great White Shark sightings!  Jaws returns!  What do you think is bringing these amazing predators so close to the beaches?
Here is Curiosity's first color panorama picture of Mars!  Mars looks like a desert on the Earth; what type of geologic forces would have created this dry, barren landscape?

  1. Answer Shark Question:
In the summer the sharks went North as far as Cape Cod. This is highley unusual, but since the summer was so hot they could go that far North and there was still warm water. Now that temperatures are getting colder there again, they have to come back south towards the equator and try to find the warmest water possible which right now is Myrtle Beach.

  2. Shark Question: The major reason that so many sharks are coming in near the shores is because the seals are so abundant that the sharks are saying " There are so many seals here, I don't have to go search/hunt for them anywhere else."
Mars Landscape: The two major factors that played a lot in the shaping of mars surface are wind and water. Wind is always blowing on mars, and scientists have found evidence that there were once rivers, lakes, streams, etc. very much like Earth.

  3. Answer Mars Question: I think erosion partly caused the rocky barren landscape on mars. We know that there was water there because of the ice caps and samples taken by rovers so erosion is possible. I think wind and evaporation from the suns heat have caused mars to be so dry.Earth has a thick atmosphere that protects us from the suns harmful rays, but Mars atmosphere is not as thick as ours so I think water evaporates faster there creating the dry desert soil
