Team 8-2 Science/Week of April 16th

Week of April 16th

World's Tallest Coaster - at 456 feet - is Kingda Ka at Six Flags, New Jersey - This monster propels you to 128 mph (America's fastest coaster) - plummets you down a 90 degree angled drop - all in 1 minute!  Calculate the acceleration on this Baby!

Monday: 1. p. 20-27 and Truck Lab checked 2. Add Inertia, Force, Net Force, and Momentum to your Vocab Sketches - checked Wed. 3.  Study Island - you have 2 weeks to finish ALL Tests!

Tuesday: Motion and Forces Quiz 1 over pages 5-27 in your Workbooks

Wednesday:  1.  p. 28-36 WB; questions 1,2,6,7,9,10,12,14,16 - due Thursday 2.  Vocab Sketches checked Thursday - you should have 12 done!  3.  The Newton Labs begin - all due Monday

Thursday:  WB p. 37-41; questions 17, 18, 20, 21, 22, and 1-9 p. 41
due Monday

Friday: Nothing new assigned

What exactly does this mean?

Inertia?

  1. HELLO! MY NAME IS SKYLAR, AND THIS GENIUS IS HERE TO TELL YOU THE ACCELERATION OF THAT ROLLER COASTER (and Baylee wont get it before me) JK
OK, BACK ON TRACK! SO, TO FIND THE ACCELERATION, YOU HAVE TO DO THE FINAL VELOCITY-THE STARTING VELOCITY/THE TIME. SO, FOR THE PROBLEM, YOU WOULD HAVE TO DO 128-90 BECAUSE THE 128 REPRESENTS THE SPEED IT GOES AT, AND THE 90 REPRESENTS THE PLUMMETING AT THE 90 DEGREE ANGLE GOING DOWN. THE TIME WOULD REPRESENT 1 MINUTE, SO THE PROBLEM IS 128-90/1
YOUR ANSWER WOULD BE 38! YAY!

  2. velocity/ time 128-90/1=38

  3. 128 mph, 90 degree angled drop - all in 1 minute to find the acceleration you have to do the starting velocity and divide it by the time which is 1 minute, also you would subtract 128 and 90 128-90/1 acceleration = 38
I found out what the second world's largest roller coaster is, Top Thrill Dragster: the speed is 120 mph the time is 17 seconds
120/17 = 7.05 is the accelerations of Top Thrill Dragster which is located in
    Cedar Point in Sandusky,Ohio.

  4. The average acceleration of Kingda Ka would be 38. The picture with the inertia formula in it means that since you ar doing nothing then you are resisting to change like the concept of inertia works. (objects tend to resist changes in motion) The last picture shows inertia because the coin will not go with the index card, but will stay and fall into the cup.

  5. Kingda Ka's average acceleration is 38, I found this out by doing V2-V1/time. So I calculated 128-90/1 which equals 38. The picture that states, "I'm not lazy..I'm addicted to inertia.", the definition of inertia is a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state, unless that state is changed by an external force. Which basically means it's not going to move until someone/something makes it move, like being lazy. The last picture shows inertia because when the index card gets pulled away, the coin will drop into the cup.

  6. The average speed of KingDaKa is 128 mph , with a 90 degree angled drop - in order to find the average acceleration , you have to do V1-V1 divided by the time . Therefore , the average acceleration is 38 .
The picture with the inertia formula in it means that since you aren't doing anything, you are resisting to change unless something makes you change or cause you to change , like inertia .
The last picture shows inertia because the index card gets pulled away , making the coin drop into the cup .

  7. The velocity/time of the the coaster is 128-90/1=38

  8. 1.The acceleration of KingDa Ka is 38. I did 128-90/1. Where 128 is the Final Velocity, 90 is the Starting Velocity and 1 is the Time(Minute).
2.The qoute in the first picture means that when your lazy, You dont do anything until someone makes you get up, You have to go do something, etc. Intertia is when an object doesnt move unless some force is acted upon it. Just like being lazy.
    3. The last picture is showing intertia because when the index card is pulled away, the coin drops right into the cup instead of moving with the index card.
